Window Cleaner #1
- 2 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 quart warm water
Mix well. Apply to window with a soft cloth. Polish window with a dry cloth.
Window Cleaner #2
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2 quarts warm water
Mix well. Apply with a cloth or sponge. Rinse with plain water. Polish window with a dry cloth.
General Cleaner #1
- ½ cup Borax
- 1 gallon warm water
Dissolve Borax in water. Apply mixture with a sponge.
General Cleaner #2
- ½ cup household ammonia
- ½ cup washing soda
- 1 gallon medium warm water
Mix ingredients together. Apply with sponge or cloth. Rinse area with water. Remainder of mixture may be stored in a bottle.
Dish Soap
- 2 cups grated hard bar soap or soal flakes
- 4 quarts warm water
Place soap in pot. Add water and stir. Bring to a boil over medium heat until soap dissolves, stirring occasionally. Lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and cool. Store in lightly covered jars. Not suitable for dishwashers.
Drain Opener
- ½ cup salt
- Boiling water
Pour salt down slow drain. Continue to flush drain with hot tap water.
Oven Cleaner #1
- Baking soda
- Water
Sprinkle baking soda over spill. Sprinkle water over baking soda. Let mixture sit overnight. Wipe clean in the morning.
Oven Cleaner #2
- 1 cup ammonia
- 3 cups boiling water
Warm over to 100°C and turn off. Pour boiling water in a broiling pan, and place on the bottom shelf. Put ammonia in a small dish on the next shelf. Close oven door and allow mixture to sit overnight. Before opening the oven in the morning, open all doors and windows to produce a well-ventillated work space. Remove water and ammonia from the oven, and leave the kitchen while the vapour clears.
Dishwasher Soap
- 1 part Borax
- 1 part washing soda
Mix the two ingredients together. May be used as a substitute for commercial brands. Proportions may be adjusted to avoid film on dishes.
Toilet Bowl Cleaner
- Baking Soda
- White vinegar
Sprinkle baking soda, and then drizzle vinegar into the toilet bowl. Scour toilet bowl with toilet brush. Mixture cleans and deodorizes.
Mildew Remover
- ½ cup Borax
- ½ cup vinegar
Dissolve vinegar and Borax in water. Scour mildew with brush and rinse with plain water.Mixture does not store. A fresh mixture is needed for each use.
Basin-Tub-Tile Cleaner
- Lemon
- Borax
Rub the area to be cleaned with half a lemon sprinkled with Borax. Rinse with plain water. Dry with a soft cloth.
Furniture Polish
- 2 parts olive or vegetable oil
- 1 part lemon juice
Mix ingredients and apply to furniture with a soft cloth. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.
